Do chained or tethered dogs attack more?

A nationwide campaign to outlaw extended tethering is gaining momentum. A dog that is chained is nearly three times as likely to bite as a dog that is contained with a fence or taken out on a leash. At Van Dorn & Curtiss we see too many dog bite victims suffering for months, even years after a dog attack. Please protect yourself and your community by taking every step necessary to decrease the number of dog attacks in New Hampshire.

Dog Bites Serious Threat | Dog Bite Attorney | Orford New Hampshire

Those who have been attacked by a dog will never forget it.  The terror and ongoing mental trauma can be too much for some to bear.  When the victim is a young child the repercussion of the attack can last a lifetime.

Recently a group of student athletes were attacked by a pair of dogs as they ran past a familiar house.  They had seen the dogs before and had no reason to fear them yet the dogs bit not only the girls but a bicycle and a car, flattening two tires.

If you or your child has been attacked and bitten by a dog, even a dog that you know, you do have the right to file suit.    Dog bites can take years of medical treatment including reconstructive surgery and counseling.  Negligent pet owners should be held responsible for their actions.

At Van Dorn & Curtiss we have the experience to prove negligence on part of the pet owner, even when an insurance company denies the claim.  We have won cases that other lawyers wouldn't touch.  If you are ready to fight for and win your dog attack case please contact your Orford, New Hampshire personal injury attorney.

Dog Bit, Attacked Women in New Hampshire | Dog Bite Attorney

A New Hampshire woman was recently bitten by her son's dog.  In this case the dog was a pit bull and was visiting with its owners, the victims' son and daughter-in-law.  Often dogs that bite are known by the victim.

In Nebraska a pit bull viciously attacked a women in the front yard of her own home.  The owner of this dog was her son, just like the New Hampshire attack.  In two unrelated cases children were injured after a dog bit them in the family home.

However, not all dog bites occur at home.  On March 28th a dog came around a corner and ripped a baby out of its mother's arms.  Both received injuries during the attack.  The baby needed stitches while the mother had deep puncture wounds on her thigh.

In this case the owner was a friend of the victim.  What should one do in such a situation?  While you do not want to fracture a friendship is it crucial that you or an injured family member receive enough money to cover medical expenses now and into the future.

If you have been bitten or attacked by a dog please contact a lawyer.  Only an experienced attorney can ensure that you receive proper compensation for your injuries and mental trauma.

Please contact an attorney at Van Dorn and Curtiss today.

As Weather Warms Dog Bites Increase | New Hampshire

Each year as the weather warms, a disturbing trend emerges; an increase in dog attacks.  Historically, spring and summer are the most common seasons for dog bites.  Animals are out more after the long winter and children, the most common victims of dog attacks, are often outside with them.

Recent dog attacks across the country remind us that dog's can and do attack.  There are ways to try and prevent dog bites.  Prevention tips focus on both dog owners and parents of children.  Even if you do not have a dog, be sure that your kids know how to avoid and protect themselves in the event of a dog attack.

Did you know that the most common dog bite injuries affect the victims head, face and neck?  These areas often require extensive reconstructive surgery and have an emotional affect on the victim.

If you or your child has been attacked by a dog please contact Van Dorn & Curtiss today.  We are your New Hampshire dog bite lawyer

Pet Attack in Milwaukee

I recently read an article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.  Why am I blogging about a story from a Milwaukee newspaper?  The story was about a 17 year old boy who fractured his skull while running away from a Rottweiler.  The Rottweiler was chained to a tree, but was able to break free.  The dog did not bite the child.  However, while the dog was in pursuit, the boy ran into a tree, fell to the ground and fractured his skull.  The boy suffered bleeding of the brain, but fortunately is in stable condition.

Though Milwaukee is far away from New Hampshire and Vermont where I practice, this story is all too common.  As a personal injury lawyer who has been practicing for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is the responsibility of pet owners to ensure the safety of their neighbors and their community by properly securing their pets.  Though the dog was chained to a tree, the owner was cited for failing to secure the animal behind a fence.  Rottweilers and other dogs can be tremendously powerful animals.  Extra precautions must be taken for the safety of others.
