Hunter shot by another hunter in Bradford Vermont

On Sunday morning Ryan Terrill in full camouflage was sitting in a hunting chair at the treeline in a field in Bradford Vermont when he was shot by Richard Sylvester, another hunter.  Sylvester was walking along the treeline and thought Terrill was a turkey. According to Fish and Wildlife Lt. Ken Denton, Sylvester violated the most important rule of hunter safety: First, identify the target. The officials agree that under no circumstances would a careful hunter mistake a human being for a turkey.

As personal injury lawyers this points up for us the tragedy and useless loss of life and limb caused by carelessness whether driving a car or hunting in a field. Time and time again it has been proven to us that most injuries and loss of life are caused by carelessness and negligence. That is why we have a legal system that addresses negligent conduct. Our negligence legal system provides a method for compensating the victim and to provide a deterrent to others.

To learn mor about this incident see the Burlington Free Press and WCAX  artiicles on this story.

We wish for a speedy recovery for Ryan Terrill.
