New Hampshire Pit Bull Attack Involves Police Officer

Are dogs truly man’s best friends? Three officers and a Somersworth man may disagree following a New Hampshire dog attack involving three pit bulls.

According to reports, Felder Thelusma, of Somersworth, was out walking his dog, Lucas, when three pit bulls charged him. Mr. Thelusma ran away after the pit bulls began to bite his dog. He was eventually assisted by a passing driver who helped him and Lucas get into the vehicle.

Officer attacked

Three Summersville police officers were called to the scene. An officer was bitten in the leg by one of the pit bulls. The dog charged another female officer while a third officer used pepper spray to subdue the dogs. It took police approximately three hours to lure the pit bulls into a police vehicle.

The owner of the pit bulls, Scott Libby, of Somersworth, is facing 13 charges, including six counts of having a vicious dog and three counts of having unregistered dogs. The pit bulls could be euthanized.

Mr. Thelusma claims that the New Hampshire dog bite suffered by Lucas cost him about $1,000 in veterinarian bills. He is hoping that the dog’s owner will reimburse him.
