New Hampshire Snowmobile Accident Claims Life

A fatality on New Hampshire's snowmobile trails marks the fourth death this winter.  According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department 52-year-old George Robertson of North Conway died Thursday when his vehicle ran into trees in Stewartstown.  Initial investigations show that speed and alcohol may have been involved.

Earlier the same day a Massachusetts man died from a crash that occurred Sunday.  The accident took place in Freedom, NH when his machine struck a snow embankment.  The rider was wearing a helmet but received a serious head injury. 

Snow machine accidents injure thousands and kill hundreds each year.  When ridden in accordance with the law and common sense a snowmobile can be fun and relatively safe.  However, like any high speed activity it does come with certain inherent risks.  Icy conditions and other, more aggressive riders can make navigating the trails a challenge.  To check for current trail conditions click here.

The Fish and Game Department offers classes on Off-Highway Recreational Vehicles (OHRV).  The courses are for anyone ages 12 and up.  There is no charge for the course.
