Firefighters Respond to Fire | Motorcycle Accident in Vermont

Posted on Apr 29, 2009

Volunteer firefighters, fire and forest warden departments from across Vermont responded to a large fire off Central Shaft Road in Vermont.  Fire and rescue personal from Florida, Savory, Williamstown, Clarksburg, Lanesborough, Cheshire and Pownal, VT were on the scene to help battle the blaze.

Captain Mike Gleason of the Florida Volunteer Fire Department and Florida Fire Chief Mike Bedini alerted crews when someone at one of the states fire towers spotted a fire.

Firefighters used ATV's and Indian tanks to carry water into the woods.  The teams also pumped water from Beaver Pond onto the blaze.  Fortunately winds were not too strong and the blaze was successfully contained.

This fire was one of four in a week and a half.  As the danger of fires from heating devices comes to a close the start of brush fire season begins across Vermont, New Hampshire and all of New England.

In addition to responding to the fire the Volunteer Fire Department responded to a motorcycle accident on Route 2 in Savory.  State police report that four cyclists were involved when the lead rider got into an accident.  The riders sustained minor injuries and were being treated at North Adams Regional Hospital.
