Mock Crash Prevents Drunk Driving | Vermont Car Accident Attorney

Posted on Jun 01, 2009

In Montpelier a terrible accident appears to have occurred.  A helicopter lands to rescue survivors and lights flash around the scene.  Fortunately the scene of this accident is more like a scene in a play.

A group of Montpelier High School students reenacted a deadly car crash caused by driving while drinking.  The mock crash took place a few days before prom and its intention was to prevent students from drinking and driving.

Though most of the current students at the school do not remember, two Montpelier teenagers died in an accident in 1998.  Concerned students decided that a mock crash would help bring a dose of reality to the current student body.

Local firefighters, police officers and EMT's rehearsed with the students and participated on the morning of the mock car crash.  The first responders were more than willing to give their time.

One of the actors, Maria Barbero Menzel, agreed that the workers were happy to help.

"They're way into this because they'd rather spend time doing this than be at a real crash," said Barbero Menzel.
