June brought warm temperatures and a multitude of bikers to New Hampshire. Bike Week began on June 13th and was, unfortunately, marred by some serious motorcycle accidents. The accidents highlight a need for caution and safety for both bikers and drivers.
Hollis police, fire and ambulance services responded to several accidents on the opening day of Bike Week.
One biker was injured when he collided with a pickup truck at a traffic light. The motorcyclist was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and was then transferred to Boston Hospital.
Another accident led to yet another hospitalization. A group of riders from New York make their way to Bike Week each year. This year, however, one of their friends was hurt when he pulled out of a parking lot and onto U.S. Route 4 in Lebanon. A passing vehicle collided with the motorcycle causing it to crash and leaving the rider with possible broken bones and other injuries.
On the same day a multivehicle accident caused serious injuries. Two of the crash victims required medflight assistance and another was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in North Conway. All of the injured are expected to survive their injuries.
Late in the day there was a single cycle crash in Andover near the Franklin Highway. Police report that the biker was transported to the hospital.
