New Hampshire Dog Bites: Are Certain Dog Breeds More Prone to Attack?

There is a lot of debate regarding whether certain dog breeds are innately more dangerous than others. Some argue that breeds, such as pit bulls and Rottweilers, are more prone to attack and inflict painful injuries on their victims. Others claim that the risk of a dog bite has more to do with the dog’s training than anything else.

Based on a poll by AP-Petside.com, people view dog breeds differently. Below are some of the major findings of this recent poll:
 

• 28% of the individuals included in the poll feel that despite training and caring, some dog breeds are inherently dangerous.
• 71% said that all dog breeds are safe, as long as the animals are appropriately trained.
• 60% of those who were polled believe that all breeds should be permitted in residential communities.
• 38% feel that some dog breeds should be banned.
• Among those who supported a dog breed ban, 85% said pit bulls should be banned, 23% said Rottweilers, 8% said Dobermans and 4% said German Shepherds.
• Not everyone agreed with a breed ban. Of the people polled, who were 30 and under, 76% believe that pit bulls are safe.
