Q: Should I hire an attorney?

A: The answer is probably yes.  Dealing with insurance companies can be tricky for someone who is not experienced in personal injury law.  A personal injury attorney has more experience in valuing cases and negotiating with insurance companies for fair settlements.  Also, without representation of an attorney, an insurance company is less likely to offer reasonable compensation for your injury.  Without an attorney, they know you are not in a position to bring them to court.  An attorney has the leverage to get them to pay a just settlement.

Still, there are some instances where an attorney may not be required.  If your damages aren't that great, hiring an attorney won't make much sense.  Still, it is a good idea to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney before going it alone.
