Hit and Run Driver Sentenced in Vermont Accident
Though any accident alters lives forever, a hit and run has larger and more serious repercussions.
Adam Desjardin of Vergennes, VT pleaded guilty to pulling in front of a bicyclist and leaving her critically injured in the street. The victim, Rose Long of Sutton, was a University of Vermont student and a member of their cycling team.
Long suffered massive facial injuries and has been through multiple reconstructive surgeries. The cost of surgeries so far exceeds $500,000.
On Friday Long told the driver that his actions changed her life forever. Desjardin was sentenced to three years in prison but asked to serve his term in a state work camp. The judge denied his request.
