Accident on Route 13 Kills New Hampshire Man
An accident on Route 13 in New Hampshire ended the life of a NH man. The accident occurred when the Jeep he was driving crossed over the center line and into the path of an oncoming truck. Police Officer Robert DiConza is part of the investigation into the crash.
"Witnesses said that the Jeep, who was traveling north, for no apparent reason crossed over (the lane) and collided head-on with the truck," said Officer DiConza.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken by helicopter to UMass Medical Center and, according to a hospital spokeswoman, was listed in fair condition.
Police report that neither man was wearing a seatbelt.
"If they had been wearing their seat belts it would have probably been a different outcome," Officer DiConza said.
Initial investigation of the crash scene confirms witness accounts. There were no skid marks on the road, indicating that the vehicles did not stop and that the Jeep did not try to slow down to avoid the accident. An autopsy will need to be performed to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Corey J. Lasile of Springfield, NH said that he was driving north on Route 13 at the time of the accident.
"I suddenly saw a big cloud of smoke, metal and oil. The Jeep went flying into the air. It flew straight up into the air, landed and just exploded," he said.
