Charlestown Car Accident Kills One
A Charlestown car accident involving a single car leaves one person dead after the car loses control and plummets into the Connecticut River. The incident took place at approximately 10:00 AM on Tuesday morning, March 16, 2010, along Route 12.
According to the Charlestown Police Department, the Nissan was traveling southbound on Route 12, when the driver lost control of her vehicle, slammed through the guardrail and continued down the river embankment into the Connecticut River. The Nissan was found approximately 15 feet from the shoreline and embedded into the ice.
The victim has been identified as Tabitha Royce, 33, of Charlestown. Rescue crews transported Royce to Springfield Hospital in Vermont. She was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.
Fortunately, there were no other people reportedly involved in the fatal wreck.
Crews from the Charlestown Police Department, Charlestown Fire Department, the Brattleboro Dive Team, Meadowood Rescue and emergency crews from Walpole all assisted in the recovery effort.
The fatal Charlestown accident is still under investigation by the Charlestown Police Department. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
