New Haven Bicycle Accident Leaves Local Woman Injured

A New Haven bicycle accident involving a truck leaves a local woman injured after she was struck while walking her bike along the side of the road. The incident took place at approximately 4:00 PM on Friday afternoon, November 12, 2010, along River Road.

According to Vermont State Police, Deborah Young, 60, of New Haven, was walking her bicycle westbound along the side of River Road when a Ford pickup truck, traveling in the same direction, hit her. The driver apparently made an attempt to slow down and move to the left, but unfortunately, the truck’s passenger-side mirror struck Ms. Young in the head.

Rescue crews transported Ms. Young to Fletcher Allen Health Care where she was treated for “incapacitating head injuries.” Ms. Young’s condition was not immediately made known. Ms. Young was wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the accident.

The truck driver has been identified as Christopher J. Goodspeed, 25, of New Haven. Police have indicated that neither speed or alcohol appear to have played a role in the bicycle accident.

The New Haven bicycle accident is still under investigation by local authorities.

This is an unfortunate incident and we would like to wish Ms. Young a speedy recovery during this difficult time.
