Accident on I-93 Seriously Injures Two

Fire and rescue personnel from New Hampton and Sanbornton responded to an accident on Interstate 93, just south of Exit 23. The accident left the driver and passenger seriously injured and backed up traffic for hours.

Reports from the NH State Police state that a sports utility vehicle cut in front of the truck and trailer, causing the driver to swerve and lose control. The truck and camper rolled over several times before the truck came to a rest on its roof. Both passenger and driver were ejected from the vehicle though the driver has stated that she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

According to New Hampton Fire Chief Michael Drake the passenger was "located a substantial distance away from the vehicle" and appeared to have suffered broken bones and head injuries. The driver was said to have suffered possible internal injuries along with numerous cuts and abrasions.

The passenger was taken by airlift to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. The driver was taken by ambulance to Franklin Regional Hospital but was later transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock.

Soon after the accident the driver was listed in fair condition and the passenger was listed in serious condition.
