New Study Shows Alarming Rate of Injury in Nursing Homes
According to a report released by the federal Department of Health and Human Services on March 3rd, 2014, one-third of all patients in nursing homes suffer some form of injury. The report follows an exhaustive study conducted by Medicare’s inspector general in which it was found that approximately 22,000 patients are injured and 1,500 die every month while in the care of a nursing home. Most shocking of all, the inspector general’s investigation found that nearly 60 percent of these injuries and deaths are entirely preventable.
