Hyundai Issues Recall
Hyundai has issued a recall for 137,500 vehicles in the United States and 3,500 in Puerto Rico. Both recalls are for model years 2011-2014 Tucson SUVs. The recall revolves around airbags that are not properly mounted to the steering wheel. Though warranty claims have been made regarding this problem, no injuries have been reported as of yet.
Vehicle Defects
Defective vehicles have been all over the news in recent months. Airbags in particular seem to be posing problems – with companies including GM, Toyota, and KIA issuing recalls due to potential dangers. Tragically, as was the case with GM, deadly vehicle defects are often known about long before action is taken. It is commendable when companies step up and issue a recall as soon as a defect becomes known.
Issuing a recall once a defect becomes known is a combination of good business practices and common decency – it is not, however, a shield against liability should injury result from the problem.
