Vermont Nursing Home Ratings Fall
Federal standards on nursing home quality have recently been updated. As a result over 30 percent of Vermont’s nursing homes are now rated below average or much below average. The rating system, designed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, has been in use since 2009 and allows prospective residents and their families to review the quality of a home before selecting the best facility for their needs. Factors that can diminish a home’s rating include:
- High instances of personal injury
- Staffing issues
- General neglect and unsanitary conditions
- Overall quality of care provided
