NTSB: The Tire Recall System is "Broken"
Following a recent investigation into the recall system in place for tires, NTSB Chairman, Christopher Heart, referred to the processes in place as “broken.” Heart told ABC News that most motorists don’t know they need to register tires with the manufacturer – not just the store at which the tires were purchased – to receive recall notices. This oversight, according to the NTSB investigation, is why 80% of recalled tires do not get fixed. Considering faulty tires can lead to serious injury and death, this finding is quite alarming.
